Screw Laconia and Rochester!!!!

Funny how when you're waiting to hear back from job interviews the all get back to you on the same day with the same answer. "Hi Melissa? This is ____________ from DCYF Laconia. I was just calling to let you know that the position has been filled, but we're going to keep your resume and application on file for...." blah blah blah. My favorite was "The Letter" I got from Rochester "Dear Ms. Cardin, Thank you for interviewing for the Child Protective Service Worker assessment position in the Rochester District Office on September 1, 2005. This letter is to advise you that you have not been seleted for the position. Although you possess skills and knowledge applicable to the postion, the candidate selected was better able to articulate their understanding of the role of the CPSW assessment postion. If you have any questions regarding the above, please feel free to contact me." That is such bullshit. You're "advising" me the postion has been filled? Couldn't you "notify" me, or "inform" me? And whats this crap about the other person being "better able to articulate their understanding of the role" ??? Evidentally I don't speak clearly enough for you. Or perhaps I just didn't learn enough while I was an intern in YOUR office?! This is crap.
So here I am again starting from square one. I guess I'll have to start applying in offices that are farther away than I wanted, but fine. I'm sick of my job at the doctors office anyway. We've had two people quit in the last two weeks, then we hired someone on and we're pretty sure she's going to quit too, because she hasn't shown up for her first two full days of work. She came in for one day last week and that was the last anyone's seen of her. She called out sick yesterday, and today she just didn't show up. She didn't call, didn't come in, nothing.
I was just really hoping for one of these to work out. Especially Rochester. I REALLY, really, really wanted that job. More so than, I think, I let on before, and more than even John knew. It's weird... not getting this job was like... getting dumped almost! It really hurt. It's kind of a crappy analogy, but it's the best I can come up with for the way I feel about it.
Anyway, that's all for now. I have a headache and need to put away laundry. Then I'm eating ice cream and watching an episode of Law and Order:SVU.

Such a quiet day

Today must qualify as one of the most boring days ever in my life! There isn't a whole lot to report right now. I'm still waiting to hear from DCYF. I was told I would hear from Rochester the beginning of last week. So much for that happening. Oh well. I do hope I hear from them soon, because otherwise, I'm going to go crazy this week. I need to be able to tell something to the job I'm at, because I found out the other day they're already interviewing for my job. That's fine with me, except for that I could be there as long as until March, and it's not fair to anyone to be interviewing for a job that isn't even open yet.
Yesterday I went shopping and bought a new outfit to wear to Sarah's wedding and Jen's wedding (gasp! Yes I fully intend to wear the same outfit to both weddings, despite them only being 2 weeks apart). That was pretty fun. Friday night John and I went out to dinner, so that was nice too. Today, however, was so boring! John played on his computer most of the day, and I "played" on my computer most of the day. I put played in quotes because I can only stand to play computer games for so long before I feel like my brain is being fried. However, I played Bust-A-Move today, in honor of my former roommate, Kerry, whom I miss very much. She and I were great at that game, and it two days, I've made it to round 48. We always played that game when we were angry about something because it's hard to stay upset when you hear the music for the game. It gets a bit repetitive after a while, but even still...
Let's see... Well, like I said, it was a very dull day. I need to try to connect with friends and stuff better, but I don't always know how to get a hold of people. Sarah C., I'm sorry I didn't come to your Mary Kay party, but I didn't really have the extra money this month to spend on make-up (or gas, for that matter). I really want to get together with you, but I know you're crazy busy with wedding plans, so sometime after you get all settled back in afterwards. Kerry, well, it's a little difficult to get together on a regular basis, but I just want to try staying in touch better. I miss you! I miss all of my old roommates, and it was so great to finally at least see everyone face to face at my wedding. Now I just want to get together with everyone for real!
John is well. He started teaching again last week, and so far the kids are good. So far. =) We'll see how long that lasts.
I guess that's about it for now. I could probably go off on a few good rants, but it's nothing that I want to post online. =)
Take care everyone!

So, Hows Married Life Treating you

That is the most God-aweful question in the whole universe! Every answer you give to it is wrong! If you say that things are great, people tell you to just wait, that'll all change. And of course, you don't want to say it sucks if it doesn't, and even if it did at the moment they asked you that, either 1) you're not going to tell them that, or 2) They're going to say "Oh, you haven't been married long enough to be having issues yet." And if you say "So far, so good" They'll say "Oh, what, you're expecting it to get bad???" So from here on in, no one is allowed to ask me how married life is treating me (if you're married - if you're single it's okay to ask). And if you do ask, I'm going to either plead the fifth or ignore the question entirely.
There, now that we've had that little conversation, moving right along...
Things are going well here, for the most part. I had my interview in Rochester, which I already wrote about, and then on the 2nd, I had an interview in Laconia. I think that one went awful. I should have an answer from Rochester the beginning of this week, Francine (the supervisor there) thought, and Laconia said I won't get an answer for the next couple of weeks. I'm up against two other UNH people for the Rochester job (at least I'm pretty sure I am) and I'm up against a UNH IV-E student, a Plymouth State IV-E student and Lord knows how many other people. I'm a nervous wreck about this. I'm really hoping for Rochester, so everyone please keep your fingers crossed, and know that as soon as I hear anything I will have a new entry up.
Anyway, I'm going to go eat an ice cream sandwich and sit outside for a bit. Catch up with everyone later!

Time for another update

Today I had an interview at the DCYF in Rochester. I'm really hoping for that job. There was only 3 people that applied for the job and I should know about that one on Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. Tomorrow I interview in Laconia. I'm nervous about that, but it would also be a really great place to get a job. I'm hoping that one of these two pan out. I'm more pulling for Rochester, only because there are people I know and feel comfortable working with there, since that's where I interned. Laconia would be a little closer of a commute and John and I could carpool now and then, which would also be nice, but on the down side, I would run the risk of breaching professional confidentiality by having clients that are also students of Johns. So we'll see what happens. I'm not going to tell the Laconia supervisor that John teaches in Laconia, I'm just going to stick to the questions they ask and make small talk, but that's about it.
It's been weird, since UNH started classes on Monday, I'm starting to realize that I'm a full fledged adult with a job and a husband and stuff. I can stay up late during the week and not spend time doing homework and such. It's a very bizar realization. As much as I like the free time, I am really looking forward to taking up some new hobbies and such. If anyone knows of any good yoga studios in the Concord area, please let me know. Also, I really want to take up pottery lessons, so I'm looking for a place that I can do that. I'm thinking the studio in Northwood if I get the job in Rochester. They have an 8 week session I can do, but I would like to something that isn't as expensive.
Anyway, I guess that's about the highlight of my life right now. I'll keep everyone updated with my job search!

1. Grab the nearest book.

2. Open the book to page 123.

3. Find the fifth sentence.

4. Post the text of the sentence in your journal...along with these instructions.

5. Don't search around and look for the "coolest" book you can find. Do what's actually next to you.

"Langdon nodded, vaguely recalling that before conclave the cardinals spent two hours in the Sistine Chapel in quiet reflection and visitation with their fellow cardinals from around the globe." ANGELS & DEMONS by Dan Brown

Okay, so the closest book was some video game book of Johns, but there is only 101 pages in that, so I had to grab the first thing I could off the nearest bookshelf!
