This past weekend was great! Saturday, my dad's side of the family threw a family party/baby shower for John & I, as well as my cousins PJ & Gail who are expecting their third baby. Mostly, we got Babies 'R' Us gift cards, and that's great! We were able to afford to buy a travel system stroller/carseat we wanted, so we bought it last night! I'm really excited about it, that will be great, and the help to afford it was awesome. You can check out the stroller we chose here.
I'll be putting some photos up online soon of the showers, but I'm kind of holding out until all the showers are done.
Sunday, some of our friends threw us a really nice baby shower, that I know probably took a lot of time to plan. We got some wonderful gifts from them and we are very grateful! We have such great friends to do something like that. Some of the things we got are just going to be nice to have, whereas some of the things are things we really needed - like a Boppy pillow and a mini diaper bag. One of them gave us a gift card to Target too, which I KNOW will get used. In fact, I plan to use it this morning on something that is on our registry, so that will be great! Then, we have one friend that gave me a gift certificate to an actual spa that is good for any service. Of course, there is a dollar amount, it's not good for anything, but a dollar amount towards any service I want. I'm pretty sure I've got what I want all picked out already :-) He also just gave us some cash to put towards something for the baby. Thank you again to all of you guys.
We are lucky enough to have another shower being thrown for us on December 2nd, which will be great! I'm hoping for more Target gift cards, since that is where we do more of our shopping, but mostly that's just because it's much closer to our house than the closest Babies 'R' Us.
John and I also went and splurged on some new video games this weekend! It was fun - we got Baldurs Gate Dark Alliance and started a two person campaign last night. I think I'm really going to enjoy the game, so far I've really liked it! We played for about 2 hours yesterday, and we'll probably play a lot more during our down time this week, so that will be fun. It's nice to have a game that we both can play together, not just one at a time!
I hope everyone else had a great weekend too! I will check in again probably on Wednesday after my check up!

I've been sick most of this week. There's this aweful cold/flu thing going around right now, and I was bound and determined to head it off at the pass. When I woke up on Monday, I felt like I'd been punched in the head, so I figured that I would take the day off and hope for the best by drinking a lot of water and relaxing. Then Tuesday I got up and was getting ready for work... and my tummy had other plans. So I stayed home again. Today I got up, again felt like I'd been punched in the face, but went to work anyway. Well, at 11 I was making my way back home again because I couldn't focus at work. So I came home and have been trying to nap and stuff since I got home. Ugh. It's such an awful feeling.
I met with Delia yesterday, and I sat there and talked about my job for about 40 minutes. By the time I was done ranting about it, we came to the conclusion that as passionate as I may feel about child protection, and as much as I believe in the job and what child protection is for, it is not something I can do. Delia basically said that she thought I would do well working in a school. That's a good thing to hear from someone in a similar field as me. So I've gotten my résumé all updated and such, and now it's just a matter of continuing to look until I see just the right thing. I'm really excited about working in a school. It will be nice to be on a similar schedule as John too. Not to mention summers off... it would be really nice to be able to volunteer for a while during the summer, I like that idea a lot. Or maybe take a couple of classes to work on my masters degree. That would be awesome too.
So now I'm just working on my laptop in the living room. Nick is coming over to visit John and I tonight. I feel bad for him, he and his girlfriend of several years just split up the other day. I hope John and I might be able to give him some help, sinc ewe've both been pretty uninvolved in the whole thing since the get go.
Oh, and for the record, I've started playing Jedi Academy. And yes, I'm probably going to be joinging the RA (for those of you involved that read this).

Another Update with Not Much News
I love three day weekends. I guess that boils down to that I love working for the state - getting all the state holidays off is REALLY nice!!! I could totally get used to this. I'm so looking forward to my week starting on a Tuesday, then having training on Wednesday and Thursday morning, then only a day and a half in the office and BOOM! It's Saturday again!
This weekend has been a pretty quiet one though. We did a lot of the usual errands: grocery shopping, laundry, etc. Today we rearranged the living room a bit. It's not a whole lot different than the last set up, but we moved our TV into one of the corners and flopped it with a chair that was there. It kind of breaks the room up into two littler rooms, which is pretty nice, because it makes the part that has the couch and chairs and TV feel more cozy and it makes the center of focus not be John's desk anymore. Not that there is anything wrong with it, but it's usually pretty messy, and it'll be nice to not have people staring at it all the time.
Johns in the living room now, playing Final Fantasy X. That's all well and good - but I hate it because without realizing it, he makes me feel like an idiot when I play that game. I've been playing it since we got the PS2 and he's already just about as far along as I am, and he's been playing for less than 3 weeks. Not to mention, all of his characters are more "bulked up" than my party, and it's frustrating, because he talks to me like I should have known how to do that. I guess video games really aren't my thing. I guess I'll stick to playing The Sims. At least you can't suck lose at that game.
I've got to remember to sign up for line dancing this week. I promised Sarah L. that I would start going with her. I'm a little nervous about it, but it should be fun. It'll be good for me to get out and start meeting some new people and trying some new things. So far I've taken up scrapbooking, which has been a TON of fun. I've really enjoyed getting to be creative with photos and getting to host scrapbooking parties. It's nice having a friend that's a consultant for Creative Memories! I've also really got to remember to discontinue my membership to the gym, or at least, START GOING AGAIN! I'm leaning towards the latter, because starting March 1, my insurance company will pay for it, as long as I go 8 times a month. Well, I can handle that, I think. Besides, it would be VERY good for me to start doing that. Besides, all of the stuff they say about working out being good for the chemicals in your brain is totally true. So I've got to start going if for no other reason than that. I've had some of my old feelings starting to creep up on me, which I think happens when I feel like I'm in a rut. I am finally good at being able to identify my triggers... feelings... signs of when bad things are coming my way, and I'm getting better about doing something about them. So as soon as I finish up this entry, I'm going to do 2 things: 1) sign up for the line dancing and 2) change my membership to the PF in Concord.
I'm finally starting to make some friends at work, which is nice. Ann is my new buddy at work. She and I are the closest in age, as well as start date and being newbies together. She started 3 months before me and has gone through the core training already (the trainings I am going through now). So we hang out a lot at work, which is fun. It's nice when I actually look forward to going to work in the morning. It would be nicer if the commute was closer than an hour, but sometimes you gotta work with what you got. I keep trying to hint that I want to look for a house, but I think John is perfectly content right here. It's not that I have anything against the apartment (aside from when it's possible to hear the guy upstairs from us doing things in his bedroom that you really don't want to picture him doing, or when people are outside in the parking lot at 2 in the morning smoking right under the bedroom windows and yelling), it's just that I am tired of renting. I'm tired of living in someone elses place. I want to have my place. I want to have walls that can be painted whatever color we choose. I want to be closer to work, especially with all of the extra driving I have to do to get out and see clients. I want to feel like a grown up now. I keep hearing about people I know buying condos and houses... and I want to be one of those people so bad! But I don't feel like I can talk to John about it sometimes, because he's so content being right here. But I'm tired of knowing that if I'm at work until 5:30, I won't be home until 6:30. And it's hard for me, because my schedule can change daily. I've been fortunate enough in that it hasn't, for the most part, but wait until I start taking my own cases.... Ideally, I'd love to be in a house by the end of the summer. Unfortunately though, I don't picture that happening. We haven't even begun the process of looking.
Anyway, I'm done ranting about stuff now. This turned into a much longer entry than I had thought it would be. I guess I had more to talk about than I thought. I'm going to go find some other stuff to do now, like... update my webpage's new quote of the week. Oops.

My life as I know it
Well, this is where I'm at so far:
I've been off this week, and let me tell you - I LOVE vacations! I haven't had one since my honeymoon, but this time it's nice too, because I've been home all week, which has allowed me to do a bunch of stuff around the apartment (like, say... clean it!) and just have some time to relax.
My Christmas was excellent and I got pretty much everything I asked for. That wasn't hard to do, because I didn't ask for much! John bought me a 512MB memory card for my camera, which was great. It'll be nice to have all of that room to take high quality photos. He also got me a gamepad for my computer, so now I can go back to playing all of those emulator games that I've stopped playing since I got a laptop. Let me tell you, Donkey Kong Country is just not the same when you're using your your "S" key to jump! I got a lot of clothes for Christmas too, and if it wasn't clothes then it was either a gift card to Old Navy, or something like lotion or shampoo. I think people are trying to tell me something! So I blew through my Old Navy gift cards this week, which was a ton of fun. I love having an excuse to buy new clothes! Hooray for new jeans! And lots of other things that I got from my parents.
Tonight, Kerry and Dave are coming over and we're going out to eat at Applebees. They should be here any minute, actually. John is watching the Final Fantasy XII demo that is on his DragonQuest 8 game. It's a playable demo, and it looks so crazy! Probably because it just throws you into a battle. I've been playing FF X and am waiting on IX to arrive here. I had to order that from EB online, so I didn't have a choice but to start X. At least I've played IX before.
Totally not related, I went to see my mom at her job today. Today is her birthday. My dad was happy to hear that I went to see her during her lunch break (it was actually just good timing on my part) because it forced her to take a lunch break. I guess she hasn't been taking one. There have been some problems at her work and she wants to make sure everyone knows it's not her who's been causing them. Oh, and while I was visiting her, she told me something really funny and kind of... not maddening, but you'll see what I mean. When I was in high school, I auditioned to get into this modeling school down in Boston. Sounds stupid, right? Well, I figured I didn't get in, because they operated on the "Don't call us, we'll call you" system, and if you didn't hear from them within a month from your audition, they didn't accept you. I figured I hadn't heard heard anything from them, so I didn't get in. Well, my mom told me today that apparently I had been accepted, but they didn't want me going to Boston every weekend by bus and staying for the weekend. I was so mad (for lack of a better word).
Tomorrow I have a job interview in Portsmouth. Ironic, huh? I quit my job and BOOM! Job interview. Right after I get myself set up to substitute in Laconia! Part of me almost just wants to blow the interview because of how mad I am at the state of NH right now because of this grant. I thought I was cool because I was smart enough to get it, but apparently the state doesn't seem to see it that way. So this time, I'm not pleading for love and happy thoughts at 11am tomorrow, because honestly, I don't really want it.
Anyway, I'm going to get going. Don't want to have to be finishing up an entry when Dave and Kerry arrive..

Stuff 'n' stuff
I got an e-mail today from the district office supervisor at the DCYF in Manchester. I was so looking forward to getting to interview for an one of the three open positions I had heard they had there. In her e-mail, though, she said that they had one open position. "Okay," I think to myself, "that's fine. I'm a IV-E intern, they have to place me somewhere..." So I continue reading. "We need to have this position filled ASAP, so I cannot offer you an interview as you have not completed your degree. We are hoping to hire someone by the end of the week." Crap. So I sent back a very polite "screw you" e-mail, using the southern tradition of killing them with kindness.
Anyway, thats where I'm at with that right now. Wedding plans are coming along well, so that's good. John and I are going to get our marriage license tomorrow, which is good. That will make it feel somewhat official. For some reason I keep feeling like I'm overlooking something major, but there's not much else I can do at this point, other than go to the appointments with the reception hall, florist and then on the 23rd, the hairdresser. I still need to pick up my dress from the seamstress - it will be ready on the 15th.
If anyone out there in LiveJournal land has gotten married and can think of anything I might be missing, please e-mail me and let me know what you think. It would be much appreciated!
Tomorrow my seminar is at the Browne Center. I am so glad that I am almost done with this, and that I really only have about 4 weeks left of my seminar! As much as I usually enjoy ropes courses, I don't really want to do that tomorrow. Because now I'm going to do that, get all hot, sweaty and gross, then not be able to shower because I have to go get the marriage license and then go to work!
Anyway, it's really hot over in the corner with my computer, so I think I'm going to wrap this post up, and head into the bedroom, call my mom and try to cool down. John's playing Jedi Knight tonight, so I don't have much to do other than either sit outside or sit in the bedroom...

Stuff and stuff
I love Saturdays! I swear, Saturday has to be the most perfect day of the week! I don't have to get up early, I don't have to go anywhere, don't have to worry about classes or work or internships... it's just a wonderful day! It's nice to have a day in the week where you don't have to do anything at all. I spent a good chunk of the morning in my pj's and in bed, then I went to the gym to get buff, then John and I went to his house and I typed up part of a paper for my seminar.
School is going well so far this semester. I haven't had much of anything to get graded on yet. I had to write a learning contract for my internship and field seminar. I got a 93 on that. I had a quiz in my human behavior class. That didn't go so well, but oh well. I had a presentation for that class too, and hopefully I did well enough on it to pull the grade up a bit. I'll just have to study much harder for the next one. I need to do well in my classes this semester! It's amazing how concerned I am with my grades now. Did I tell you all that I made the deans list last semester? That's never happened before! EVER! I'm GOING to do well though. I've been working really hard this semester too.
I love my internship too. I love getting to go there. I'm starting to feel like I know whats going on, so that's good. I just started writing an agency analysis for my seminar, and that has actually been kind of fun, because it has allowed me to learn so much about my agency, and talk to people I haven't gotten to talk to much there.
I'm kind of sick of my actual job though. It pays well and all, but I'm so sick of the job! Not much I can do about that though. I keep telling myself that it's only until August, then I can officially start with the state.
I joined Planet Fitness this week. I've gone every day since Tuesday, so that's been fun. I forgot how much I enjoy going to the gym. It would be nice if there were someone there that I knew, or that would go with me, but I kind of like being able to work out at my own pace too. I get up and go before work in the morning, I'm usually there around 6am or so. I've been doing both cardio and weight training. It's helped me feel quite a bit better about myself.
But, things over all are going pretty well. The wedding plans are coming along, so thats fun. We're working on the photographer and florist still, but we're making headway on both. I just can't wait until August!
